There’s Nothing Quite Like a MOMMY MADE Meal: Social Catering with Samer Sfeir

Samer Sfeir was a university student at the American University of Beirut when he created Mommy Made social catering company with his peers back in 2009. According to Samer: “Back then, most people did not take us seriously and underestimated our ideas. But this did not stop us from pursuing our dream and searching for the right platform to launch our project.” The project participated in the 2012 edition of the Ripples of Happiness competition organised by the Coca-Cola Foundation in partnership with INJAZ al-Arab, winning the “Best Women Empowerment” project amongst various universities from five Arab countries. “This was the real launching of our project,” says Samer, who decided to continue developing the winning project by registering Mommy Made as the first non-profit, international and Lebanese cuisine provider. The catering company works with women with social and financial challenges, enabling them to acquire the necessary skills and job opportunities to become self-sufficient and provide better lives for their families.

Samer’s relationship with INJAZ Lebanon has also developed. “Mommy Made has become a well-known social catering company. What is even better is that the collaboration with INJAZ did not end with the competition, our relationship evolved from an organization empowering students, to a more mature collaboration and partnership,” says the INJAZ alumni and founder/social entrepreneur at ShareQ. He is also actively collaborating with INJAZ Lebanon and fellow alumni to found an INJAZ Alumni Lebanon Chapter.

Since its official registration, Mommy Made has trained more than 85 women and integrated 50 of their children into schools. The successful catering company has designed various successful formulas for conference, event and training programs, and has worked with reputable clients such as UNESCO, ALBA, Commercial Insurance and their AUB alumni. The Mommy Made social enterprise has also been featured on MBC, LBC, and La Stampa Italian newspaper, in addition to several social entrepreneurship academic articles.
